Jackson Again

Yesterday we went Jackson to sort of watch the parade, and then just play around.

We were enthralled by the parade. Jann thinks it's getting smaller every year.

But they did throw candy, which is good.

Then we hiked along Jenny Lake. Jack is thinking about peeing on a marmot.

We started climbing toward inspiration point, but at some point lost the trail and ended up on a snow field.

It was very beautiful.

And snow, hey, so slide.

Jann was the best.

Jack...

... and Sam just skied down on their shoes.

Some of them got we butts and some didn't.

Did I say it was beautiful?

Then we had to invent a way back down too.

Sam, mid air, jumping over a stream.

Afterwards, we went disc golfing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Can you see the bear?

A Visit to the Moon

Last week we drove over to Craters of the Moon, and hiked around a bit. It was lots of fun.

Jack and Sam crawling around in a collapsed lava tube, at Buffalo Cave.

With no one to nudge, Sam could only wink.

Jack watching his mommy emerge.

Jack, climbing into a lava tree, formed when lava bunched up around a live tree, which subsequently died and rotted away.

The last thing we did was climb Big Cinder Butte.

Mostly it was just cinder, but there was one tree up there.

Jack had decided to run up with Sam, and felt kind of pukey afterwards.

Fire

When we build the house, our neighbor to the north cut down the row of willows he had planted on our property as a wind block. He just piled the branches in heap to the south of the house. A couple of weeks ago, our good neighbor Bart said Let's burn this thing.

He had his foreman bring the water truck from the farm, just in case.

They had the fire going before I got there. It was a perfect day for burning, as the wind was almost dead on the ground. The smoke went straight up, before turning east at about 150 ft.

Willow burns well if it is dry, and this had been sitting around for about eight months.

Bart, showing some more gas on the fire.

He came over again last week with his tractor and hauled away any remaining burnt logs, and some other junk from the property. Thanks Bart, you're a good neighbor.
