Rexburg's Sorta-annual Air Show

The boys and I went to the quasi-annual Rexburg Air Show last week. It was a very fine thing, and we mostly enjoyed ourselves. Adam wanted to leave early, and I said tough beans.

My first air show at the Glenview Naval Air Station, Glenview, IL featured the Blue Angels in A-4 Skyhawks. So I was surprised to see one at the airport. Sans engine, turns out, but still very cool.

Grumman S-2 Tracker sub chaser. A new acquisition for the museum.

Kent Pietsch and his Jelly Belly Interstate Cadet. One aileron missing!

It was not warm. Jack, Sam, and Adam

I think this is Todd Therp, in his Zlin 50.

The museum's Beech Stagger-wing Bipe.

The Museum's Model 18 Twin Beech.

Chopping the police tape, inverted.

Buck Roetman and his Pitts S2, which is made about 100 miles from here, in Afton, WY. I've toured the factory, and it is muy cool.

More Jelly.

Ty Dunn and Daniel Williams joined us part way through.

Pietsch landing on his pickup.

Pietsch, headed through the trees on the golf course.

Danny Sorensen and his Sorensen BF9-2 "Unfinished Business." This was my favorite plane there. It was a gorgeous little biplane designed, built and flown by Sorensen, styled after the planes of the 1930s.

Gary Rower and his beautiful Stearman.

More Stearman.

Brad Wursten and his carbon composite MXS-R.

John Bagley, the guy who started the Legacy Flight Museum, flying his Mormon Mustang. Apparently  this was the name of a real 51 flying in the European theater during the war. The guy got GA approval to name it that and everything.

One of only two flying P-63 King Cobras in the world. These planes were never flown in combat by US pilots, but the Russians loved them. Another Bagley acquisition.

Stearman and Pitts.

Bob Hoover's Ole Yeller, flown by Bagley.

Mormon Mustang, Section Eight, and Ole Yeller.

Missing Man formation.

The S-2's wings folded for stowage.

Sam has his papers in, and should be getting a call in a little over a week. (Edit: Mexico Villhermosa Mission)

Jack Wins Our Last Pinewood Derby

Good job Jack.

Cross-eyed Stereogram

Just a couple of photos I took when we were at Upper Mesa Falls. Look at the right image with your left eye, and the left image with your right eye. Merge the two, and voilá. It turns 3-D.

Little Brown Bear

After our visits to various water falls yesterday, we went to find the place we're renting for the family reunion, and found this little guy on the road down to the cabin. It's taken through the windshield, which was pretty dusty.

Soccer and Sheep

We've had the Briggs family visiting over the weekend. They took us on a cute little hike to Sheep Falls, on the Henrys Fork, above Ashton. But first, we watched Jack play his last soccer game of the season. As their coach said, they won their first game that wasn't against girls.

Jack (left), and his team before the game. Teir coach is saying that even though they lost to these guys earlier, they could, conceivably, win this time. Maybe.

Jack sat out the first quarter, so Jann just played Hearts, and Adam slept.

Isaac saying Let me kick that thing, and Jack sayin No.

I don't know if jack is the best goalie on his team, but he can boot it furthest. We've practiced.

Fortunately that was out.

I made Sam be line judge. I could see the ref casting his eyes about for a likely volunteer, so I pointed to Sam. He was a fantastic line judge. (Best ever.)

Carlos booting a corner kick to Jack.

Carlos' relatives were giggling through most of the game, especially when someone wildly missed the ball trying to kick it. I went up to them and said Es como FIFA, no? Casi. World-class soccer.

Jack had a couple of shots on goal. On bounced on the goal post and bounced straight back out again. At the end of the game, he got a beautiful pass, and sprinted for the goal.

Here's his boot.

And there it goes, straight past the goalie and in. Just after the whistle blew ending the game. So they didn't count it as the fifth score, and they won 4-1.

I never did get a photo with Sam not sucking on his Capree Sun.

Our Sam saying Nice job dude.

Sheep Falls, and lunch.

Heidi, negotiating the basaltic boulders.

Jared, Calvin, and Andrew. Calvin has sharks on his glasses.

Jack watching.

Sam pulling a Rory. Nice round hole in a rock.

Adam, contemplating.

Heidi's sister Heather, and her girls came too. As did Fido.

At Upper Mesa Falls.

Adam showing us his bum.

Andrew, back home.
