Dormant Indian

Adam wasn't with us last time, so we hiked the Sleeping Indian (Sheep Mountain) in Jackson yesterday, as a last hurrah before we take hime to the airport and put him on a plane to Brazil.

We hiked this last year with Sara, but this year we got an earlier start.

So many dead trees. This is about a five mile hike to the summit, but a 4000 ft elevation gain.

Every once in a while they waited for me.

Something interesting at lunch. I was too tired to care.

After a long hard slog, I finally caught up with them, waiting for me yet again. The last 400 ft is up rocky slopes.

Sitting at the edge of the precipice.

Up, up, up.

Face timing with Sara and/or Grandma.

Up, among the clouds, at 11,200 ft.

It was chilly and windy.

Looking south east.

The four hikers.

Jann, among the sunflowers, on the way down.

It was a little smokey in the valley. Perhaps from our fire north of the sand dunes.

Fire weed.

Indian paintbrush.

Hanging Canyon

Sam and Angie and Laura were here for Adam's farewell. We hiked Hanging Canyon. Always a bit punishing.

We had to hang out in the parking lot to get a spot.

Heading out. Turns out the Hidden Falls trail is closed because of a crack forming in a cliff on the trail. They just had that trail closed for a year or more for construction.

Laura and I were slower than everyone else, so we had lunch together.

Sam and Jack made it to Lake of the Crags.

Then they came back down to Jann, Angie, and Adam, just as Laura and I finally caught up.

Second lunch. Adam?

Rock chuck, looking for a snack.

String Lake, in the background.

Sam is always doing this..

On the way down. Look, there's a natural bridge.

Stopping to medicate.

Back down.

Afterwards, we met Grandpa and Suzanne at Bar J, and had a wonderful time. Sunday was Adam's farewell.

Darby

We hiked to Darby Wind Cave Saturday with the Huishes. It was very beautiful and invigorating.

Resting, half way up.

At our lunch spot, Pat getting ready to pelt someone.

Jack, by the monument that commemorates a bad leadership decision.

The water was pretty high this time, so we got wet feet.

Jann, striking a pose.

Shelly making it over the skinny bridge.

Pat, taking a more sure route.

Inside the cave. Shelly, on her ice throne. I kept saying "just a second, my focus isn't working." She was a little chilled by the time I got this.

Pat, looking back to the cave entrance.

Coming back over the falls.

Jann, cooling off at the lower falls.

Family photo with Mark.

On the way down. Let's do it again.
