Hanging Canyon - Lake of the Crags

So, we haven't had enough hiking this summer, and decided to go to Lake of the Crags. It is a brutal hike of about 8 miles with 3000 ft elevation gain. Beautiful beyond description.

We started in the String Lake parking lot.

Hiked past the fishing rock, almost to the Cascade Canyon trail.

And then started going up.

Mt Owen?, with protuberance.

See the patch of sky on the left? We are headed up there. Doesn't look too steep in the photo.

We were constantly stepping up and over.

Finally, we got to Rams Head Lake, and stopped for lunch. Adam, at peace.

Then, one last hike up and over the dam that makes Lake of the Crags. I think the big peak there is Rock of Ages.

Soaking the feet. It was an exhausting hike up. We are at about 9600 ft here.

This doesn't really convey how steep it was. This is not a maintained trail, and it is very precarious in places.
