Darby Canyon

We hiked up to the Wind Cave in Darby Canyon yesterday. Afterwards, we continued up the canyon to find the Ice Cave. The weather was cool, and the fall colors are starting.

We stopped for lunch at the monument commemorating the girls and leaders that died during a thunderstorm on the first year the girls' camp opened.

The Wind Cave has a huge entrance. Here's looking back out  from inside. But it narrows down fairly quickly, and you have to crawl and squirm through some tight places. Eventually, it connects with the Ice Cave, further up the canyon, but you need technical gear to get through.

Then we hiked up the canyon a little further, to see if we could find the Ice Cave entrance. 

The weather was cool, but very fine.

Grandpa Murdock wanted some columbine seeds, so Jann found a patch, and we emptied seed pods into a ziplock.

Jann and I hiked up further, and did find the entrance to the Ice Cave. But it was already getting late in the day. We'll go there again, and see what it's like another time.
