The Sleeping Indian

We went on a fantastic hike Wednesday, to the chest of the Sleeping Indian, in Teton National Park. There were wild flowers.

We had some trouble finding the trail head, and took some scenic detours, including a road along a rocky creek, with willows growing over into a tunnel, and fireweed flowers, all back lit. I wish I had gotten a picture.

The four of us at the wrong trailhead.

Sara and Jann catching up after...

Ah, the correct trailhead.

We started up a deep ravine with very tall weeds, and young aspen.

The fireweed was spectacular.

Then we climbed up onto a fairly steep hillside, headed for the timber.

Lunch, looking out over Jackson Hole.

Up through the trees ...

... and onto the belly of the Indian.

Watch out for the cliffs on the other side.

Here we are, deciding whether to go the last 400 ft to the indian's chest. It was getting late, and we were low on water.

But, we did it. Here's a plane coming into Jackson's airport.

Sara, Jann, Jack, me. Tetons.

The views were spectacular.

Looking out towards the Wind Rivers. It was a bit smokey, so not so clear.

On the way back down.

Indian Paintbrush.

It was a long, steep slog down for me. Everyone else did fine.

The indian, as we left him to go home. We climbed from way over on the left of the photo, to the top of his chest.
