Hiking in the Smoke

Adam and Jack had to go to Jackson to buy the traditional new lunch box for the new school year. Jann and I had to take them, and did a little hike too. Not too much, because Adam was sore after his first cross-country practice.

On the way over the pass, Jack said "Ho there. I just saw a bear in a tree."

So, we stopped, did a U-turn, and went back. Sure enough, there she was. A little black bear.

We also saw another bear on the Moose road, and also a (well) moose. I wanted to take a picture of the moose, but Jann scoffed. It's only a moose.

Then we hiked a little at String and Leigh lakes.

See the smoke from all the wildfires?

We got to the little almost island on Leigh Lake's southeastern shore, and waded a bit in the cool water.

Pondering rock and poop.

See Mt. Moran all hazy in the glow of Adam's awesomeness?

Hmm..

And we saw several deer. Jann made me take a picture of this on because of the funky stripe on its back. (It's just a deer.) Just off to the right, a somewhat bigger 3-point was pawing at a mushroom to unearth it, and then it ate it up. Never seen a deer eat a mushroom. Hope all went well.

And Jack too.

  1. These pictures make us homesick. We loved that country.

  2. Adam's morphing into a Big Boy. It's weird. But the bear is cool!
